A $7.50 supermarket item has been constantly selling out after it became one of the key elements in a viral dish, causing a nationwide shortage in Australia.

Capilano Hot Chilli Honey has been flying off the shelves, with Coles struggling to keep up with the huge demand after the cottage cheese beef bowl exploded in popularity on social media, leaving shoppers frantically searching for the ingredients.

The high-protein, macro-friendly dish – dubbed the ‘Healthy Girl Bowl’ – consists of roasted sweet potato, beef mince seasoned with nacho spices, avocado, cottage cheese and of course, Hot Honey Chilli.

However, Aussies have been unable to make the bowl after struggling to find the sought-after Hot Honey Chilli, with some supermarkets reporting the item sold out within hours of restocking.

The sweet and spicy condiment has become an ‘absolute staple’ in many households as it’s the ultimate flavour booster for almost everything – whether drizzled on pizzas, chicken wings, tacos or even stir-fries.

Many shoppers have expressed frustration after going from one supermarket to another, unable to find the Hot Honey Chilli.

‘OMG I can’t find it anywhere, I would love a bottle please,’ one pleaded.

‘I’ve been struggling to find any in our supermarkets locally,’ another said.

‘I can’t get that damn Hot Honey Chilli. I got everything else but that,’ one revealed, laughing.

‘I had to make my own batch of hot honey because it was not in stock anywhere,’ another added.

Those who have a bottle of Hot Honey Chilli at home can’t get enough of it.

‘I went from never even knowing it existed a month ago to being on my third bottle… So good I could drink it with a straw,’ one said, laughing.

Many revealed their dishes weren’t complete after missing the key ingredients – including the Hot Honey Chilli and cottage cheese.

The Hot Honey Chilli shortage comes after the simple recipe went viral when many food content creators, including Michael Finch, made the dish.

‘Honest to god, I didn’t think I was going to like the whole cottage cheese thing but with the hot honey mixed with it, it’s so good,’ Finch said as he taste tested the dish.

Taking another bite of the flavourful bowl, Finch said with delight, ‘Wow.’
