The Veronicas duo Jessica Origliasso and Lisa Origliasso say they have been left ‘shocked, embarrassed and confused’ after they were removed from a Qantas flight on Sunday after a dispute over baggage.

The twin singers, 34, were on the QF516 between Sydney and Brisbane, set to take off at 10am, when the incident occurred.

A photo shared to the Instagram account of a passenger on the plane showed the stars being attended to by police officers.

The photo was captioned: ‘The Veronicas delayed my hubby flight! On QF516 Syd to Bris. They asked to have their bag put in overhead locker (nicely).

‘Attendant said they can’t do that (true). Whatever happened next… plane delayed to wait for security.

‘Then AFP comes on to remove them! Delayed flight for ages. They videoed whole thing so perhaps will be on their account soon. Flight just now taking off’.

The stars were said to have become ‘disruptive’ during the exchange and began filming the incident as it unfolded.

The Australian Federal Police were called when the issue could not be resolved by the cabin crew.

Qantas issued a statement on the incident, saying: ‘After boarding, two passengers refused to follow crew instructions and were offloaded.’

The airline confirmed to Daily Mail Australia on Sunday that the twins were able to board at later flight for Brisbane, which took off at 12pm.

In a lengthy statement made on a plane passenger’s Instagram account, the official account for The Veronicas commented:  ‘We actually already had our bag up in the overhead. The female flight attendant wanted Lisa’s bag spun around.

‘Lisa asked the attendant if she could help assist her, because she couldn’t reach it (we’re only 5’1). The attendant said it was against company policy. And a lovely man behind us helped instead.

‘Then right before take off, the flight attendant bought over the manger and pointed us out. He proceeded to lecture us about company policy.

‘We listened and asked for their names. At that point they refused to give us their names, and announced they were going to call security on us. We had no idea why. That’s when we started filming!

The singers wrote in an Instagram comment on a passenger's account: 'Such an upsetting and embarrassing experience. We still can't believe this happened, and that the flight was delayed for so long when we had no idea what was happening. We are still in shock and so upset'

‘We were so confused as to why asking for their names resulted in us being removed by three Federal Police.’

The comment continued: ‘Such an upsetting and embarrassing experience. We still can’t believe this happened, and that the flight was delayed for so long when we had no idea what was happening. We are still in shock and so upset.’

A second comment on the same passenger’s account read:  ‘We are still shaken by it all. We don’t understand why they announced us on the plane as security risks, when we were just sitting there saying nothing… It’s so scary they can call federal police on people without any reason or explanation.’

The incident was escalated without explanation why from cabin staff. We cooperated with all requests from authorities and exited the aircraft’.
