The VERY star studded cast voicing royal satire

The new animated satire that takes aim at the Royal Family boasts a star-studded lineup – including Orlando Bloom as the voice of his friend, Prince Harry.  

The 12-episode series – which is available to stream in the US on HBO Max from today but is not yet airing in the UK – threatens to make a dent in the public images Harry and Meghan have spent months carefully crafting. 

The Lord of the Rings actor’s portrayal of the Duke of Sussex, 36, comes just months after the royal told Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ show that he’d struck up a bond with his new neighbours Orlando, 44, and singer Katy Perry, 36, who live ‘just down the road’ from the couple’s £11million mansion in Montecito, California.

Among the A-list cast also includes Dan Stevens, who appeared in one of the Queen’s favourite period drama Downton Abbey, and will take on the role of The Prince of Wales.

Elsewhere, Game of Thrones’ Iwan Rheon will play Prince William, Sophie Turner stars as Princess Charlotte, and Frances De La Tour, who has featured in the likes of Harry Potter and Rising Damp, will voice Queen Elizabeth. 

ORLANDO BLOOM: PRINCE HARRY

Voicing the animated prince is British actor Orlando Bloom, who lives just a stone’s throw from the Sussexes in upmarket Montecito and has become friends with Harry. 

In the satire, Prince Harry is shown coming to terms with his post-royal life as he and Meghan arrive in an LA apartment. Looking around, he says to his wife: ‘This might be the smallest palace I have ever been in.’ 

Meghan corrects him: ‘Well, it’s an apartment,’ to which Harry replies: ‘Yes, an apartment palace, I know that. Lots of tiny palaces inside one big palace.’

The Hollywood actor’s appearance in the animated series comes just months after the Duke of Sussex, 36, told Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ how the Lord of the Rings star tipped him off about a photographer and that the pair ‘keep in touch’ over text.  

And the pair’s close proximity and the fact they are now both Brits abroad is far from the only parallel between the duo, who have both seemingly been moving in the same circle for years – having common connections with US designer Misha Nonoo, popstar Ellie Goulding and also a reported interest in spirituality.

Indeed the pair have even attended the same events, including Nonoo’s 2019 Rome wedding, and could soon find themselves taking their daughters on playdates.

Orlando shares daughter nine-month-old Daisy with Katy Perry and Harry and Meghan are expecting a daughter this summer.

Gary Janetti – the brainchild of the animated series – has written for Family Guy, was the Executive Producer of Will and Grace and has even release a New York Times Best Seller

Born on March 22, 1966 in New York, Gary Janetti has written for Family Guy, and was the Executive Producer of Will and Grace.

The American comedy writer, who has been married to Brad Goreski since December 26, 2017, also co-created and wrote the British sitcom Vicious, which aired on ITV from 2013 to 2016. 

As well as working behind the scenes on TV, he has also turned his hand to book writing, with first solo nonfiction book, Do You Mind If I Cancel? (Things That Still Annoy Me), which was published in October 2019, becoming a New York Times Best Seller. 

However, Gary has earned quite a social media following thanks to his funny posts about the royal family, where he can often be found making jibes at Prince George.

In the spoofs, he imagines five-year-old Prince George as a sassy, spoiled young royal who spouts biting commentary about the rest of his family. 

So when his dad’s first cousin Princess Eugenie tied the knot, the event naturally inspired some parody posts.

Gary shared two cheeky takes on the day from sassy Prince George’s perspective.  

In the captions, Gary speaks as the little prince, imagining him being a bit mean, and a bit petty, but also very funny.

Shortly after Eugenie’s nuptials to Jack Brooksbank, Gary uploaded a cute picture of George in his wedding outfit, turning around and looking over his shoulder. Beside it was a picture of Beyoncé at the Met Gala, striking a similar pose.

‘Beyoncé taught me this move,’ Gary captioned the snap, as Prince George.

Later, he posted another picture of Princess Eugenie herself, smiling in her white wedding dress and sparkly tiara. It split the screen with a photo of George, also at the wedding, in a snap that appears to have been taken mid-gasp.

‘Oh, s***, THAT’S Princess Eugenie!’ the pictures were captioned. ‘All this time I thought she was one of the maids!’

Later, next to a picture of her sister Princess Beatrice, he wrote: ‘Oh, s***, she’s not a maid either!’

Just before the big day, he posted an article written about the wedding, captioning it: ‘Princess WHOgenie is more like it.’

And in August, posting an article about Princess Charlotte appearing in the wedding, he wrote: ‘I’m getting a five hundred thousand pounds appearance fee.’

The faux-George’s sassy and biting commentary has earned Gary over 1million followers to date.

His imagined version of George frequently makes fun of Prince William’s balding head, dreams about the day he will rule, and looks down on everyone around him.

This George isn’t a fan of Meghan Markle, either, and often criticises what she wears.

After her wedding to Prince Harry, People published a story with the headline, ‘Meghan Markle Has Very Special Plans For Her Wedding Dress.’

‘Is she finally going to iron it?’ Gary captioned it on Instagram, posing as George.

On August 23, he commented on a FEMAIL headline that read: ‘Classes fit for a prince! George, five, will study the bible, learn French fairy tales and enjoy weekly BALLET when he starts Year One at his £20,000-a-year London school.’

‘In biology we dissect a commoner,’ he wrote. 

Earlier this month a producer for rival Disney Studios accused Mr Janetti of ‘taking cheap shots’, saying: ‘It’s one thing for film-makers to play fast and loose with the truth in shows like The Crown but poking fun at a seven-year-old child seems cruel and unfair.

‘Some things should be off-limits. It’s morally wrong to use a child to get cheap laughs.’

Mr Janetti says he hopes the young Prince will be able to laugh at the satire, adding: ‘I would hope that he would find it super funny, and have a sense of humour about it, and obviously see that everything is meant with affection.’ 

Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens, 38, who now lives in Los Angeles, played aristocrat Matthew Crawley, who was dramatically killed off during a Christmas Day episode. 

For avid fans of the show, it was an unforgivable act because the love story between Matthew and his distant cousin Lady Mary Crawley was central to the plot.

That talented actor went on to perform in Broadway play The Heiress for a six-month run, before remaining in New York with his wife, South African singer Susie Hariet, and their daughter Willow and son Aubrey.

Shortly after, he appeared in a string of gritty roles, including a drug dealer in clichéd 2014 Liam Neeson drama A Walk Among The Tombstone, and the same year played Sir Lancelot in the third instalment of the family movie franchise Night At The Museum.

In 2014, he played a murderous solder in violent thriller The Guest, before going on to win praise for his role in Disney’s 2017 live-action re-boot of Beauty And The Beast, in which he played ‘Beast’ to Emma Watson’s ‘Beauty’. 

Since then, he’s been cast as Charles Dickens in The Man Who Invented Christmas and is now set to voice Prince Charles in the animated royal satire. 

In one scene, Charles is seen telling Camilla: ‘I want to be King, she’s had her go, now it’s my turn,’ before running out of the door when the Queen calls his name. 

It may come as a disappointment to the Queen, who is believed to be a massive fan of the ITV series.

Brian Hoey, author of At Home With The Queen, said the drama came up in a conversation with a staff member at Buckingham Palace.

It has emerged that Queen Elizabeth loves the show and is constantly spotting historical mistakes.

Mr Hoey told The Daily Telegraph: ‘We were talking about Trooping the Colour and how the Queen always notices if anything is not quite right, such as one young officer she spotted wearing his medals in the wrong order not long ago.

‘Apparently she is exactly the same when she is watching the television. She loves watching Downton Abbey and pointing out things they have got wrong, partly because she is familiar with Highclere Castle, where it is filmed.

‘She used to stay there as a guest of the Carnarvon family.

‘She is the same when she is watching anything on television. In one programme she was watching, the Queen noticed that a British officer was wearing medals that were from the wrong era.

‘It was set in the First World War but the medals he was wearing did not come in until the Second World War.’

The Queen is not the only royal fan of the show. Kate Middleton is said to be a ‘huge’ follower of the series and make Prince William watch it with her.

The Duchess of Cambridge met the cast earlier this year at Ealing Studios in London.

She was shown into the wardrobe department and the make-up room before watching a scene from series six being filmed.

The Duchess of Cornwall also never misses an episode, but it’s reported that Prince Charles is not as keen on the period drama.

Scottish-born actor Alan Cumming, 56, who voices Prince George’s butler Owen, lives in New York with his husband of eight years, illustrator Grant Shaffer. 

Last year, The Eyes Wide Shut actor was appointed the artistic director of Australia’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Speaking about his role as artistic director at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Alan revealed he was due to attend last year’s festival, but it was cancelled because of COVID. 

‘As we all know, that little virus (Ms Rona to her friends) had other plans. The 2020 Adelaide Cabaret Festival was an online only event, the Edinburgh festivals were cancelled and suddenly all the goalposts were changed and I was in zoom meetings discussing venue cleaning turnaround times and hotel quarantine budgets,’ he wrote for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival website. 

The previous year, he revealed that he turned down an appearance on The Good Wife spin-off The Good Fight alongside Julianna Margulies due to a pay dispute.

Alan, who played Eli Gold on The Good Wife during its seven season run, told US Weekly that he was supposed to appear with Julianna.

‘Both of us were going to go back They were not going to pay us. What’s the reason to take us back? Because we’re big parts of the story, and obviously, it was also going to be a big cache for the show,’ he said.

‘That costs. Why should we do it for a guest star thing when the last time we were working on this show we got much more?’ the star added.

The Adelaide Cabaret Festival returned from June 11 until June 26. Afterwards, the Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion star took his show, Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age, on tour around Australia. The tour began in Brisbane on June 30 before finishing in Perth on July 9.

The talented star, who originally auditioned for Jon Snow which went to Kit Harington, also appeared in Misfits and is a singer-songwriter.

Bizarrely, she was considered to be the first female Doctor in the 1980s, when producers were desperate to change the sex of the time-travelling alien in a bid to keep it on the air.

De lay Tour, Joanna Lumley and Dawn French were in the running, however, the show was cancelled in 1989, only to return with another man, Christopher Eccleston, in the lead role in 2005.

In a spoof video from Family Guy producer Gary Janetti released last Christmas, cartoon Prince George joins the Queen to deliver an alternative Christmas speech.

The animated clip sees Her Majesty, voiced by actress Frances de la Tour, look back on 2020 and list the ‘challenges’ the world has faced.

During her message, in which she references the global pandemic and devastating wildfires, the seven-year-old interjects to lament the cancellation of the Coachella music festival, the postponement of the latest James Bond movie and Denise Richards leaving the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Her Majesty concludes by admitting this year ‘really f****** sucked’, adding: ‘At least we got the vaccine,’ to which cartoon George quipped: ‘Most of them didn’t,’ signalling the audience at home.

The prince then signed off: ‘Merry Christmas b*****s, George and GanGan out.’ 

SOPHIE TURNER: PRINCESS CHARLOTTE

Sophie Turner, 25, played Sansa Stark in fantasy television series Game of Thrones and received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2019.

The actress recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary with husband Joe Jonas, 31, with whom she shares 11-month-old daughter Willa. 

Earlier this month, Prince Harry’s friends and new neighbours Katy Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom looked completely loved-up as they enjoyed a double date with Sophie and Joe, leading the stars at the glitzy Louis Vuitton dinner in Paris on Monday. 

Both couples took a night off from parenting duties to enjoy the star-studded event, with Katy, 36, rocking a semi-sheer shimmering silver dress and Sophie opting for a stylish white blazer-style dress.  

The Primetime Emmy-nominated actress is currently involved in the production of two television series that are set to make their respective debuts in the near future.

The performer is currently set to voice Princess Charlotte in the upcoming animated sitcom The Prince. 

Turner will also appear as Margaret Ratliff in the long-awaited miniseries The Staircase, which is based on the 2004 docuseries of the same name.

The show will see Colin Firth starring as novelist Michael Peterson, who was charged with murdering his wife Kathleen in 2001 and eventually convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 2017.

Harrison Ford was initially set to take the starring role in the series and serve as one of its executive producers, although he later dropped out of the project.

The programme will also feature the talents of Toni Collette, Juliette Binoche and Parker Posey, among other performers.

The Staircase initially entered the development stage in 2008 and experienced a lengthy writing process before production eventually began last month.

It is currently scheduled to be released on HBO Max in the near future.

Royal pain: A cartoon version of Prince George was delightfully sassy in the first peek at HBO Max’s upcoming series The Prince

TV series The Prince, created by Family Guy producer Gary Janetti, depicts Prince George as a child tyrant with expensive taste, a withering sense of humour and a dim view of his family.

Janetti, who first began making jibes at the the royal family on his Instagram account, has previously defended the show after he was accused of taking ‘cheap shots’ at George.

He said: ‘I would hope that he would find it super funny and have a sense of humour about it, and obviously see that everything is meant with affection.’

In another scene senior royals – including Prince Philip – are seen having afternoon tea in Buckingham Palace when the Queen jumps up and down in her seat and screams: ‘I would like a treat, I would like a treat, the Queen would like a treat!’

Prince George turns to a nearby royal aide and asks: ‘Do you have any tea that doesn’t taste of p***’

The young prince admits he’s scared of younger brother Prince Louis, who is depicted as a thug, while prim and proper Princess Charlotte is chirpy and well-spoken.

In the final moments of the trailer, the Queen tells great-grandson Prince George: ‘Sweetheart, you have no idea how much hard work it is to be head of a state family and syndicate,’ before shooting dead an attendant who ‘startles’ her.

An admiring George says: ‘She’s such a bad b***h.’
