The event, which is one of the oldest tennis competitions in the world and is now watched by millions across the globe, is the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year after the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

Many acclaimed athletes will be facing off this year – including Daniil Medvedev (who holds the current number one spot and won last year’s US Open), Alexander Zverev (who is considered the second best player in the world), and Rafael Nadal (who is ranked at number three) – and they will all most likely be accompanied by their stunning wives and girlfriends.

Russian-born Daniil, 26, first met his wife, Daria Medvedev when he was only 12 years old. Daria was eating at a restaurant with her mom, while Daniil was competing on the tennis courts right outside.

She told Tatler Russia that she and her mom decided to stay and watch the match, which went on for more than three hours.

‘He used to fight till the end. He was prepared to do anything on court, no matter how ugly his game may look, in order to win,’ she recalled. ‘In this sense, he hasn’t changed at all.’

The two soon became friends, and started dating years later – in 2014. Three years into their relationship, the couple moved to Monte Carlo, Monaco, where they still reside now.

According to MarieClaire, Daria studied journalism at Moscow State Institute of International Relations. She played tennis as a teen, and planned to go professional one day – before an injury left her unable to pursue the sport. 

But Daria’s knowledge of the sport has only strengthened their relationship, with Daniil previously telling the media, ‘It’s great that she understands tennis… Perhaps it’s not easy to get used to it when you don’t understand anything in tennis. It helped me to become better as a person and a player.’

Daniil called the moment that he proposed to Daria the most significant moment in his career.

‘She’s one of the most important members of my team,’ he said during a press conference in 2019. ‘She gave me a lot of confidence. I always say that it’s the moment I made the proposal to her, that’s when I started to go up. She does a lot for me in order for me to play better tennis.’

However, when they celebrated their third anniversary together last year – just after he won the 2021 US Open – he shared a touching tribute to her online, in which he revealed that she was on his mind the entire match.

‘It’s the third anniversary for me and my wife. During the [US Open], I couldn’t think of a present. So when I went in the final, I thought, “I need to find a present fast,”‘ he wrote.

‘When I won, the only thing I thought, if I lose I have no time to have a present. So I have to win this match. I love you, Dasha.’

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal, 36, was introduced to his now-wife, Maria Francisco Perello, 34, when they were teens by his younger sister, who reportedly went to the same school as Maria. The couple is seen in 2015

They announced that they were gearing up to welcome their first child together earlier this year, but on Thursday – days before he’s set to play at the US Open – it was reported that Maria had been rushed to the hospital after suffering from an undisclosed complication in the pregnancy.

Spanish outlet Diario de Mallorca claimed that the 34-year-old, who is now 31 weeks pregnant, could potentially undergo surgery within the next 24 hours.

‘Maria is at a crucial stage of her pregnancy and will remain under observation as a precautionary measure,’ Yahoo Sports also stated. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Theodora Petalas

Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, 24, has been with his girlfriend, Theodora Petalas, for three years now. The two reportedly met through family friends while she was studying at New York University. The pair is pictured in March

While Alexander Zverev may arguably be one of the most well-known German tennis players, his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, has launched her own major career as an actress, model, and TV presenter. They are seen in December 2021

She posts many ‘day in the life’ videos and even encouraged her followers to ‘start dating professional athletes’ in one – so they too could ‘travel the world, dress cute, drink champagne, and go to tennis matches.’

In the clip, which has been viewed more than seven million times, Morgan took a sip of champagne while sitting in front of some palm trees, wearing a green floral dress and sunglasses.

In another video, which has gained two million views, Morgan said, ‘Here’s your sign to start talking to that cute tennis boy.’

This one showed a montage of clips of the couple, including one of them kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower, one of them getting on a plane together, one of them drinking alcohol in an infinity pool, and one of them riding on camels in the dessert.
