‘Thermal detonator’ Coca-Cola bottles bought at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge are banned from flights – because they look like bombs

Star Wars fans have been banned from taking Star Wars drinks bottles shaped like ‘thermal detonators’ on flights in the US.
The souvenir collectible Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Sprite bottles are exclusively available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland California and from tomorrow at the same land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
But the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has confirmed that the bottles are not permitted in either carry-on or checked luggage on aircraft as they look like explosives.

The thermal detonator famously wielded by Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi, while disguised as a bounty hunter
The palm-sized bottles are meant to resemble the grenade-style weapon famously wielded by Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi, who threatened Jabba the Hutt with one while dressed as a bounty hunter.
They are emblazoned with the Coca Cola, Diet Coke and Sprite names in the Aurebesh language that is used in the films.
One confused flier, Ash Best, took to Twitter to ask the official TSA account if the bottles would be permitted in luggage – given their shape.
He queried: ‘I know these look dodgy, but can they be packed in a suitcase? Thanks.’

The account responded, telling Ash: ‘Thanks for asking! Replica and inert explosives aren’t allowed in either carry-on or checked bags.’
This was confirmed by a TSA spokesman, who told MailOnline Travel that the bottles would not be permitted for travel.
This is because ‘packing inert, replicas or toy explosives in luggage has the potential to impact travelers’.
When TSA officers discover a suspected explosive device they have to call an explosives specialist, which can lead to missed flights and long delays.
The bottles were designed by Coca-Cola along with Disney and Lucasfilm and are ‘designed to fit authentically within the Star Wars universe’.

The eagerly awaited $1billion Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in California in May to great fanfare.
The 14-acre attraction has rides, shops selling personal droids and lightsabers and ‘Star Wars-appropriate food and drink’.
The big draw is a massive replica of the Millennium Falcon, where guests can roam the ship’s halls and engage in a dogfight with Tie Fighters. Another ride called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is set to open later in the year.
The same Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land will open for visitors to Florida’s Disney World Resort tomorrow (August 29).
