Daring thieves ABSEIL forty feet into Manchester H Samuel store in Mission Impossible-style raid stealing up to £80,000 of goods before making swift escape

  • Raiders broke through the ceiling and abseiled 40ft into the store on Tuesday

Highly skilled thieves abseiled into a high street jewellers and got away with up to £80,000 worth of precious jewels and good in the early hours of Tuesday morning.  

Police were alerted to a burglary at the H.Samuel in the The Fort retail park in Cheetham Hill, Manchester arrived just after 2.30am.

Once inside the shop they discovered daring raiders had entered by breaking through the ceiling and abseiling 40ft into the store.

It’s not clear how many people were involved, but they smashed the glass display cabinets and swiped any jewellery they could get their hands on before making their escape.

Early estimates suggest between £40,000 and £80,000 worth of jewellery was stolen, Greater Manchester Police said.

A manhunt is underway and officers are appealing for any potential witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Atkinson from GMP’s City of Manchester division said: ‘This was a well-planned burglary, the offenders knew exactly what they were doing.

‘We have launched an investigation and we encourage anyone with information to come forward, these offenders were highly skilled, someone must know something about their plans.

‘A large quantity of jewellery has been stolen and we would like any information that would assist with the investigation.’
