‘All that remains tonight is the bike stand. Gutted. It got me to work safely, avoiding chances of being infected with #coronavirus. As an asthmatic that was important.’

Ms Newman added that if anyone sees her bike abandoned in central London, she would be ‘over the moon to be reunited with it’.

Journalists and broadcasters ‘who are providing public service broadcasting’ are included under the Government’s list of ‘key workers’.

This means those who are informing and communicating to the public on the coronavirus crisis, such as Ms Newman on Channel 4 News, are able to attend work.

The presenter confirmed she had reported the theft to the Metropolitan Police, alongside posting a picture of the Compass Women’s hybrid bike with its wicker basket.

‘Out of stock on @blacks_online so it’s my daughter’s bike or train for me tomorrow.’

According to the NHS, those with asthma are considered at ‘moderate risk’ for coronavirus, and are told to only leave the house for essential work, shopping for food and exercising.

‘It’s very important you follow the general advice on social distancing, including staying at least 2 metres away from anyone you do not live with,’ guidance added.

Asthma is listed alongside emphysema and bronchitis as a lung condition which presents a ‘moderate risk.’
