Thieves steal vintage wines worth more than £500,000 after tunnelling into cellar of Michelin-starred Paris restaurant

It must be a case for Bergerac – thieves have made off with £540,000 of wine after tunnelling into the cellar of a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris.
Around 150 bottles were taken, including Petrus, Romanee-Conti and vintage champagnes.
The raid on Maison Rostang, a restaurant near the Arc de Triomphe which is popular with celebrities and politicians alike, took place in the early hours yesterday.

The thieves did not make a hole big enough to climb into the cellar. Instead, they reached through and plundered the best bottles, worth about £540,000. ‘
[The hole] may have been created by someone with key access to the cellar,’ said a source within the police investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage.
Such thefts are common in France with wines easily sold on the black market.
In August 2017 criminals stole £200,000 of wine from a Paris apartment after getting in through the city’s catacombs.
