‘This is what she does’: Trump slaps back at CNN’s Kaitlan Collins

‘This is what she does’: Trump slaps back at Kaitlan Collins when she says he only built ’52 miles of new wall’ – as he claims migrants are sleeping in Central Park and end of Title 42 will be a ‘day of infamy’

Donald Trump warned the U.S. faces a ‘day of infamy’ and is about to overrun with ‘tens of thousands of migrants’ when Covid-era powers expire on Thursday. ‘The border is a disaster,’ the former president said. ‘I built hundreds of miles of wall and I finished it. I started another hundred miles of wall and then—we had a rigged election.’ He said that migrants had been sleeping rough in New York’s Central Park because shelters were so overcrowded. CNN anchor Kaitlin Collins grilled the 76-year-old on whether that was factually correct, sparking a furious response from the ex-commander-in-chief.

'This is what she does,' Trump exclaimed, calling Collins 'a nasty person.' The real estate mogul has regularly clashed with CNN since 2015, trashing the network as so-called 'fake news.' The tussling came just before another Trump administration aspect of border policy – Title 42 restrictions – was set to fall. The emergency restriction – first enacted in 1944 and designed to control the spread of disease – was seized upon by the Trump administration in early 2020 to allow for the immediate deportation of migrants to limit the spread of Covid-19.

After taking office in January 2021, President Joe Biden kept the policy in place. And, in total, it has been used to expel more than two million migrants over the last three years. With Title 42 gone, the new watchword will be Title 8 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. It gives those seeking asylum the ability to participate in a 'credible fear' interview with an officer or judge. If they fail it, they could soon be back on a plane to their home country or Mexico through expedited removal proceedings.

Otherwise, they can begin the lengthy process of seeking asylum. Republicans have also lambasted Joe Biden for scrapping the $16.8 billion border wall project on his first day in office in 2021.
