This Morning suffers epic Stephen Hawking blunder

This Morning concluded Wednesday’s installment with a video tribute to the late genius Stephen Hawking, who sadly passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 76.

However, viewers at home were left stunned by the ITV show’s epic blunder when Meghan Trainor song All About That Bass was accidentally played in the background of the montage.

The inappropriately placed tune – which boasts lyrics including ‘I got all the right junk in all the right places’ – suddenly ground to a halt, before the correct voiceover featuring Hawking replaced it.

Awkward: This Morning concluded Wednesday’s installment of the programme with a video tribute to the late genius Stephen Hawking – but things went terribly wrong when Meghan Trainor song All About That Bass was accidentally played in the background

The segment was played in the last few minutes of the show, with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield declaring they were leaving viewers with a special tribute to the physicist.

This Morning viewers were incredulous at what they had just heard, taking to Twitter in disbelief, although most managed to see the funny side in spite of the tragedy.

One wrote: ‘I’m f**king crying this morning just said rip to Stephen hawking then started playing all about that bass by meghan trainor over the top of pics of him lmfaoo (sic)’.

‘Hahahahaha f**k sake this morning showing Stephen Hawkins death and all about that bass start playing’, another tweeted.

A third posted: ‘as IF @thismorning just played a megan trainor song over the Stephen Hawking tribute montage hahaaaaaa’.

Another commented: ‘Only thing @thismorning would of got away with them is if they changed the words to “I’m all about that space” in there tribute to #StephenHawking rather than the f**k up they just did! #ThisMorning’.

Stephen was told he had just two years to live at the age of 21 when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease – which confined him to a wheelchair and left him unable to speak except through a voice synthesiser.

The scientist managed to live well beyond the life expectancy placed on him by the disease – which causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles – and went on to do groundbreaking scientific research on black holes and relativity.

He is perhaps most known for his best-selling book A Brief History of Time, which explained the mysteries of the universe in basic terms and sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

Stephen’s family confirmed the news of his passing on Wednesday in a statement which read: ‘We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today.

‘He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.

‘His courage and persistence with his brilliance and humour inspired people across the world. He once said: “It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.” We will miss him forever.’
