Thomas Baksh drank ‘up to 40 cans of alcohol’ before fatal crash

An unlicensed father has been accused of drinking up to 40 cans of alcohol before killing a 12-year-old boy in a drunken car crash.

Thomas Baksh, 35, was allegedly driving three children in Shepparton, Victoria, when his vehicle collided with a pole shortly before 1am on Saturday.

When emergency services arrived, the boy was found dead in the front seat, while two other children – another boy, 10, and a 14-year-old girl were found to have suffered injuries in the backseat.

It is believed the 12-year-old was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was killed on impact.

In court on Monday, it was alleged Baksh had consumed between 30 and 40 cans of alcohol before getting behind the wheel, according to Nine News.

He was also accused of drinking for almost nine hours before the collision occurred.

Additionally, the court heard that Baksh was on a learner’s permit – and therefore not licensed to be behind the wheel without a fully licensed driver.

Baksh is now facing charges of culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death.

Hours before the tragedy it is believed Baksh’s partner attempted to stop him from getting behind the wheel by confiscating his keys but he ultimately still left with the children.

Baksh was remanded in custody with his next court date set to take place in November.
