Three arrested after child, 3, drinks meth-laced soda

A three-year-old girl’s mother, aunt and uncle have been arrested after the young child drank soda laced with methamphetamine.

Police in Grantsville, Utah, said the toddler was brought into a Tooele City hospital on December 30 by her grandmother because she was ‘acting crazy and erratic,’ according to Fox 13.

The child tested positive for meth, and staff members at the Mountain Medical Center emergency room contacted the police.

The grandmother, who is the child’s legal guardian, told authorities that the little girl had started acting strangely and when she asked her daughter and son, the girl’s aunt and uncle, what happened they said the girl started acting ‘weird’ after she drank a bottle with soda in it.

When detectives went to the home and questioned the child’s uncle, 23-year-old Danie Black, he admitted to recently using meth.

He also reportedly told police that the bottle belonged to one of his sisters, 27-year-old Ashley Black or 30-year-old Lucinda Black. Lucinda is the girl’s mother.

Danie also said that Lucinda and Ashley would often mix the drug into a drink.

‘At some point the soda bottle with the mixed meth was in area where the child could reach it,’ officer Alison Peterson said. ‘The next morning she was with her grandmother and her grandmother reported her acting crazy and erratic.’

Detective Lydon Allred with the Grantsville Police told Fox 13 that all three siblings tried to blame each other, but he eventually figured out what happened.

‘I was able to show that Ashley gave the meth to Lucinda and that Lucinda put it in a bottle, which she took to her mother’s where the three-year-old consumed the meth by accident,’ he said. ‘I also learned that at one point, Danie had taken what was left in the bottle and took it to the bathroom to consume the meth.’
