According to Down Detector, a website that monitors outages, the problems started at about 10:00 GMT, prompting more than 3,000 complaints across the UK.

Three said it was aware of the issue and is ‘working hard to get things back up and running as soon as we can’.

Hundreds of Three customers have taken to Twitter to complain about the outage.

Nathan Bishop wrote: ‘Has @ThreeUK @ThreeUKSupport gone down? Suddenly no service on my phone!?’

Another customer tweeted: ‘@ThreeUKSupport network is down – in case you don’t know from the 100’s of tweets… 

‘Totally gone – no signal in Liverpool (and all over the UK it appears!)’

David Wilson added: ‘No signal whatsoever on the Isle of Wight. Any idea what’s going on?’

Three tweeted a response to a number of customers.

Its customer service account wrote: ‘We’re aware of an issue and are working hard to get things back up and running as soon as we can. 

‘In the meantime, please try restarting your phone.’
