Three teens arrested for shooting dead a wedding guest

Three men have been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a wedding guest who mistook their car for his Uber.

Christian Broder, a married father of a nine-month-old baby girl, was leaving the event at a private Atlanta club late on July 7 when he was shot in the stomach. He died several days later in hospital.

Jayden Myrick, 18, and Torrus Fleetwood, 19, and Montavious Lovejoy, 15, are being held over the death of Broder. Kevan Reeves, also 15, has been indicted and is expected to turn himself next week due to ‘procedural reasons,’ AJC reports.

Broder, who managed Millie’s a California Baja-style restaurant in Washington DC, was waiting outside Atlanta’s Capital City Club with a group of friends after the wedding.

They were waiting for their Uber when two men pulled up in a white Dodge Charger.

Confusing the Charger for their ride, they approached the car, which is when one of the men got out from the passenger side, pulled out a handgun and ordered them to hand over their belongings, police say.

Broder and his friends gave up their cell phones, wallets and other valuables, and the suspect returned to his car, according to police.

That was when the 34-year-old father followed the suspect and tried to reason with him to give him his license.

Police say that was when the suspect opened fire, shooting Broder in the stomach.

The gunman then got into the car and fled the scene.

Broder was rushed to a Washington-area hospital and died almost two weeks later ‘surrounded by loved ones.’

Myrick, 17, was arrested almost a week after the fatal shooting and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated battery and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The charges were later upgraded to murder. He remains in the Fulton County Jail with no bond.

Police say Myrick was the gunman and Fleetwood was the getaway driver.

No details have been released about the alleged roles of Lovejoy and Reeves.

All four suspects are believed to have gang ties.

Both Myrick and Fleetwood also had recent criminal records, but had been released from jail after being granted leniency.

Friends and family paid tribute to Broder as ‘friendly’, ‘very kind’ and very funny.

‘Christian evoked joy in others and made them feel loved in a way that was so comfortable, that you couldn’t help but want to be near him,’ friend Tim Willard said, according to WTOP.

Fellow restaurant worker Jeni Hansen described Broder as ‘such a light’ and someone people looked up to as a mentor and a friend.

‘When you have that light, it’s just hard to replace.’
