Three women in their 20s find tiny white pills hidden in their kebabs on night out in Bognor Regis

Gemma Hood and two friends bought kebabs from Istanbul Grill and found they were spiked with pills. Two men have been arrested

Three women have called in the police after finding their late-night kebabs were laced with multiple pills mixed in with the doner meat.

Gemma Hood and two friends bought the meals from Istanbul Grill, in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, in the early hours of Sunday and the takeaway has since been raided by detectives.

Two men, aged 30 and 42, have been arrested on suspicion of administering poison with intent to inflict GBH and bailed until January 27.

Sussex Police is investigating what happened and is urging anyone who may have had a spiked kebab to come forward.

The force today revealed they had closed the kebab house for the next 48 hours as they continue to investigate the ‘concerning’ incident.

Miss Hood reported the crime after she and two friends, also in their 20s, tucked in and each found a large blue capsule and large fragments of white drug dissolving into their ‘horrific tasting’ meat-filled pitta breads.

She revealed the ordeal in a Facebook post titled ‘Istanbul Kebab Shop putting pills into girls’ kebabs. Luckily we found’.

Gemma told how her friend had been eating the kebab with a fork when she came across two of the pills, before spitting out a chunk of food and finding a third.

She said: ‘We purchased a kebab from Istanbul Grill, Bognor. When we got home my friend was eating her kebab and found a blue capsule in the kebab. Luckily she was eating the kebab with a fork, that’s how she found it.

‘We opened the capsule and there were four small white tablets inside.

‘She continued to eat the kebab and had a horrific taste in her mouth and spat out her food and there was a larger white tablet.  We called the police and they came around to take statements.’

Police wearing rubber gloves were seen searching the Bognor kebab shop yesterday and the owners have not yet commented on the case.

They have arrested two local men on suspicion of administering poison with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.

A spokesman said: ‘Three women in their 20s reported finding the pills in their food after they returned home from Istanbul Grill in High Street, Bognor Regis, around 2am on Sunday December 29.

‘Police have arrested two men. After being interviewed both men arrested in relation to this investigation were released, on police bail with conditions until January 27 while enquiries continue’.

Sussex Police have said there is no need for alarm and believe it was an isolated incident.

District Commander, Chief Inspector Jon Carter, said: ‘I understand this incident may cause concern. However, police have taken prompt action to protect the public with the arrest of two people, and are working with partners, especially in the district council, to enhance protective measures.

‘The investigation is at an early stage, and exactly what happened, and the motivations of those involved are not yet fully understood. However, there is nothing to suggest that any other food outlets are involved, or that there is any link with any particular section of the wider community.

‘Local officers will be present in the area, and I would ask for the support of the public in allowing officers to investigate this matter.’

A worker who emerged from the Instanbul Grill takeaway today refused to comment on the incident or police investigation.

When approached the man, who appeared to be aged in his 40s, refused to acknowledge whether he was the owner but said he was allowed to be there.

When asked, he declined to give his version of events and said: ‘I don’t have time to talk to you. I have nothing to say.’

He then hurried back inside the building on Bognor Regis high street.

A closure notice from Sussex Police was on the door of the shop which a number of passersby stopped to read.

Anyone with any information about the incident, or who believes they may have been affected, is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 344 of 29/12.
