In what could be the first steps of another comeback for Tiger Woods, the 15-time major winner was finally seen walking without crutches following the February car crash that left him with compound fractures in both legs and jeopardized his career.
The masked Woods, 45, was pictured on Sunday exiting an SUV in Los Angeles while wearing a windbreaker and shorts with a black sleeve covering the lower portion of his right leg. A masked woman — possibly his girlfriend, Erica Herman — was seen alongside the PGA Tour legend.
Woods had been relying on crutches and the use of a protective cast on his right leg since the crash.
He appeared to be walking with a slight limp on Sunday night, but managed to climb a set of five steps without any issue as he entered a hotel.
‘[He’s] doing well, especially all things considered,’ fellow PGA Tour player and friend Justin Thomas recently told the No Laying Up podcast.
The problem for Woods, Thomas said, is breaking the monotony.
‘It’s Groundhog Day — every day is exactly the same for him,’ Thomas said.
‘He’s able to be a dad somewhat again, which is most important. He’s still his sarcastic a**hole self, so nothing’s really changed there. So I’m glad to see he’s as chipper as always.’

He has not played since a tournament in December of 2020, when he competed alongside his 11-year-old son, Charlie. Woods then had a fifth back surgery in January, but stressed that he expected to return to the tour, albeit after missing most of 2021.
However, Woods would miss the entire 2021 season due to the February wreck, which he was lucky to survive, according to police. Investigators considered the crash to be an accident, but would not release the cause due to privacy concerns. Strangely, Woods neglected to hit the breaks for 400 feet after running into the media.
Fans and golfers responded by wearing red for Woods during the World Golf Championships later that month.
‘It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the tv and saw all the red shirts,’ Woods tweeted. ‘To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time.’
In April Woods showed himself in his first photo since the accident. Although he was smiling, Woods was leaning on crutches and his right leg remained in a protective cast.
Woods, who is no stranger to recovering from injury, described the grueling process to Golf Digest in May.
‘This has been an entirely different animal,’ he said. ‘I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced.’
He was pictured without crutches while watching Charlie in October, but Woods was leaning on a club and did not appear to be walking.
