Tiger Woods has been the unofficial face of the golfing world since he joined the Tour in 1996.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday evening, Woods wrote: ‘Excited and honored to be the cover athlete for #PGATOUR2K23! More to come on 8/22 from @PGATOUR2K! #MoreGolfMoreGame.’

Woods was last featured on a gaming cover back in 2013, gracing the front of EA Sports’ PGA Tour.

Further details will be released on August 22, where 2K will explain various game features alongside the cover itself.

The 46-year-old has been the face of a litany of games over his career, starting in 1998. Then, he signed a deal with EA Sports and appeared on their covers up until 2013.

Woods’ most recent cover was the eponymously titled, ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14,’ which included the LPGA for the first time.

Rory McIlroy took over as the face of EA’s golfing games in 2015. The Northern Irishman also took center stage Wednesday, praising Woods for his leadership and legacy on the Tour.

‘We’re all great players but we’re not Tiger Woods,’ McIlroy said.

‘He is the hero that we’ve all looked up to and his voice carries further than anyone else’s in the game of golf. His role is navigating us to a place where we all think we should be.

‘I think it’s pretty apparent that whenever we all get in the room there’s an alpha in there and it’s not me. He cares a lot.’
