Tiger Woods snaps at a cameraman at the PGA Championship as he tells them to ‘back off’

Tiger Woods lost his temper on the first at Southern Hills as he was involved in a heated exchange with a TV cameraman moments after his opening tee shot at the US PGA Championship. 

The 46-year-old continued his comeback from his horrific car accident, which nearly cost him his right leg, last year as he teed off at golf’s second major of 2022 on Thursday. 

The 15-time major champion was walking with a noticeable limp during his practice rounds early in the week, often using a golf club as an aid.

After striking a stinger of a drive down the middle of the 10th fairway on his opening hole, he gingerly made his way down tee box.

All eyes in the crowds were on the golfing great, as were the cameras, but Woods was not happy with the proximity of the cameraman.

‘You mind giving me some breathing space please,’ Woods said.

He then repeated the remark to the media in tow before waving his arms in disbelief and becoming more angry.

Raising his voice slightly he added: ‘Back off a little bit and give me some more breathing space.’ 

Woods then shrugged off the exchange and continued his approach to the ball before chipping to close range and holing his birdie putt to move one-under through the first. 

However, his round did not continue in such stellar fashion as despite adding two more birdies to his card, six bogeys saw him finish four-over.

Woods made a sensational return to the course in April as he surprised the golfing world by not only playing the Masters but making it to the weekend.

A month later and he continued his comeback at the US PGA, insisting he felt ‘stronger’ ahead of the tournament. 

Southern Hills is thought to be an easier course for him to walk as it is ironically flatter than the hills Augusta, contrary to what its name suggests, but Woods still appeared to be struggling through the turn in the opening round. 

Woods was playing alongside Jordan Spieth, who has the chance to complete the career Grand Slam this week, and Rory McIlroy.
