Caramelized pineapple

TikTokers from across the UK and the US have been sharing clips as they use the device to make cocktail garnishes at home, from dehydrating lime slices to caramelized pineapple (pictured left and right)

Posting her clip on the app, Camby wrote: ‘Will get better at the dried sage situation but makes for a fun decor piece!’

In the video, she can be seen placing the sage leaves into her machine before setting it to the dehydrate function.

She commented that she had been telling ‘everyone to use the dehydrate function on the air fryer for all sorts of things.’

After drying out the leaves, she removes the pieces before binding together with a piece of string and setting it down as a piece of decor in her home.

Meanwhile another added: ‘Gurl what else can we dehydrate?’

How to create the perfect cocktail garnish using your air fryer

1. Thinly slice limes or lemons

2. Cover the air fryer in foil and lay out the limes.

Try not to have them overlapping.

3. Set the air fryer on the lowest heat and cook for one hour (check intermittently)

4. Remove from the air fryer and let cool, then use to garnish on your favourite refreshing cocktail

A third commented:  ‘Oh my god I was just thinking about the dehydration button yesterday.

‘Never used it and I’ve had my air fryer for a year.’

Another wrote: ‘Wait ok you are genius.’

Meanwhile Camby shared a second video in which she could be seen using the airfryer to create a garnish for a cocktail.

She posted the clip, writing: ‘When your air fryer has a dehydration feature… I keep a jar at home because I’m always feeling fancy.’

In the video, she sliced up a number of lemons and limes, writing: ‘When you’re too lazy to go out but feeling fancy.’

She went on to place the dehydrated fruits onto the top of a cocktail glass.

The video has since gone viral, with over 3 million views on the platform.

But she isn’t the only TikToker to be using the appliance to create a perfect cocktail.

Caroline Cronin shared a clip as she dehydrated a number of fruit for a drink, posting a tutorial as she went.

She commented: ‘Come with me as I make air fried dehydrated limes to garnish my margs.’

She said the first step was to ‘thinly slice the limes’ before saying: ‘Step two, cover the air fryer in foil and lay out the limes. Try not to have them overlapping – made that mistake.’

‘Step three, set the air fryer on lowest heat and cook for one hour (check intermittently).

She finished: ‘Step four, remove from the air fryer and let cool, then use to garnish on your favourite refreshing cocktail. Ours were spicy margs!’

Another posted a clip as she prepared slices of pineapple to garnish a cocktail, writing: ‘A great garnish for Flavored Teas & Lemonades…. Vodka, Tequila, Rum… it all works.

‘This one though is a Cincoro Tequila Infused Pineapples* & Passionfruit Tea.’

She suggested infusing the fruit for 14 days for great results.’

Air Fryers — counter-top machines that cook by rapidly circulating hot air — mimic the effect of deep-fried food with far fewer calories and a fraction of the fat.

Latest machines reduce fat by as much as 80 per cent with the effect that calories are almost halved. Better still research by energy firm Utilita found that ditching an electric cooker in favour of options such as air fryers and slow cookers could help families save money during the cost of living crisis.

Although the gadgets have been around for years, they’ve soared in popularity in the past 12 months. In their annual consumer report published last year, John Lewis revealed that sales of air fryers have increased by 400 per cent.

Air fryers have been touted as a good way to cut on energy costs this winter, as they use a fraction of the energy of a conventional oven — just 14p a day to run, compared to 87p.

This is because the fryer uses spiral heating element with a powerful fan, which means that it cooks food faster than a regular oven, and requires less electricity to do so.

Data from energy firm Utilita and supermarket Iceland and published by the Daily Mail reveals a standard electric oven costs 87p a day (£317.55 a year) to run, based on average daily usage. However, an air fryer will set you back 14p a day, or £51.10 a year.

This means that if you already own an air fryer, you can save £266.45 a year.
