Tim McGraw jokes 26-year marriage to fellow country star Faith Hill is like 96 years in showbiz: ‘It’s like dog years’

Tim McGraw held forth about the longevity of his marriage to his fellow country star Faith Hill, whom he tied the knot with in 1996.

‘I don’t know if there’s a key. We always say we’re 27 years coming up, it’s like 96 in show business. It’s almost like dog years,’ he cracked.

‘We just made a commitment early on, when we first decided we were getting married and having kids, that we wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose,’ he remarked to Entertainment Tonight Canada.

They now share three daughters, Gracie, 26, Maggie, 25, and Audrey, 21, and Tim has remarked that the whole family are able to be ‘brutally honest’ with one another.

‘Faith and I were going to raise our girls to be strong, independent and fierce and have their own minds and have their own opinions,’ he shared.

Tim confessed: ‘And sometimes I go: “Dang, do we want them to be that independent and strong?” But yeah, we’re so proud of them.’

During the same interview, Tim reflected on when the then rising teen star Taylor Swift opened for him and Faith on tour in 2007.

Taylor had already broken into the music business, releasing her debut album in 2006 – with a lead single called Tim McGraw.

‘We knew early on, when she was opening for Faith and I on our Soul2Soul tour, just her and an acoustic guitar, and spending time with her,’ Tim fondly recalled.

‘Faith and I both knew that there was no stopping her. She’s a special talent,’ added the smoldering country hunk, who hails from Louisiana.

This year has been especially vindicating to Tim and Faith’s early suspicions, as Taylor embarks on her barnstorming Eras Tour.

Earlier this summer, Fortune magazine reported that the tour could result in $4.6 billion worth of consumer spending just in the United States.

Tim and Faith, meanwhile, are co-starring on 1883, the spin-off prequel series to the American pop culture juggernaut Yellowstone.

Faith met Tim back in 1996 when she herself was his opening act – 11 years before the tour where they had Taylor for an opener.

In a joint interview with People magazine a few years ago, they credited both quality time together and time apart to themselves for their enduring marriage.

We both have our daily routines and we have our own dressing rooms,’ said Faith. ‘We each have our own space to retreat to so we do get time to ourselves.’

‘Funny, as we get older it’s less about the big gestures and more about just spending the time together at home,’ Tim mused. ‘For our 20th wedding anniversary, we stayed home, in our pajamas and watched TV, we loved it.’
