Timothy Spall puts on a quirky display to film 1970s-set Bolan’s Shoes with Leanne Best

Timothy Spall continued shooting his new film, Bolan’s Shoes, in Liverpool on Tuesday.

The actor, 64, takes on a quirky character for the 1970s-set film, which he stars alongside Line Of Duty actress Leanne Best in.

Timothy looked unrecognisable as he sported long hair and a beard while shooting scenes outside , strolling along the waterfront with Leanne.

Timothy wore a plaid white and red shirt under a black blazer and matching slacks.

The Harry Potter star added trainers and a tan messenger bag to the character’s look.

His co-star wore a chocolate jacket over navy T-shirt, tan skirt and matching boots.

She accessorised with gold hoop earrings and a number of handbags.

The actors were seen walking up and down the waterfront, with the pair chatting away as the cameras rolled.

They shot scenes among the Love Locks at Albert Dock before moving onto a courtyard, away from the public. 

Mask-clad crew members were on hand to help touch up Timothy’s hair and make-up in between takes and talk through the scene.

The film is to feature music by Marc Bolan’s T-Rex, known as the pioneers of the glam rock movement of the 1970s.

Bolan was killed in a road accident in 1977. The film ‘celebrates the enduring legacy of childhood experiences and the deep bonds of sibling love’ according to Variety. 

They will also shoot scenes around Anglesey, and the cast also features Mark Lewis-Jones, of The Crown.

Bolan’s Shoes will be released in 2022. It will release around the 45th anniversary of Mark Bolan’s death – which would also have been his 75th birthday.

Timothy’s last known project is Spencer, the Kristen Stewart-led biopic about Princess Diana, which is currently in post-production. 

The actor became a household name after playing hapless electrician Barry in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, but is also known for roles in the Harry Potter franchise.

The actor famously beat leukemia despite being given just days to live in 1996. He cut down on booze in 2014 after suffering from exhaustion.
