Timothy Spall shows off weight loss in tailored grey coat

He stunned fans with his incredible weight loss last year, after overhauling his lifestyle.

And Timothy Spall looked worlds away from his larger than life characters as he stepped out in London on Wednesday.

The 60-year-old actor looked slimmer than ever as he donned tailored grey checked coat and paisley-patterned silk scarf for the solo outing.

Dressed to impress, Timothy sported a dapple grey blazer underneath his outerwear and complemented the look with navy suit trousers.

The actor – who has starred in The Kings Speech and British TV drama Auf Wiedersehen Pet – showed off his distinctly slimmer frame in the smart ensemble, which he paired with a pair of black leather shoes.

His outing comes after ITV announced it has postponed the Hatton Garden Heist drama, in which Timothy leads the cast in the notorious £14m robbery.

The four-part series was due to air in December but will air in May this year instead.

Timothy’s weight loss began in 2014, when he shed a mass of weight and looked unrecognisable from the characters he is famed for playing.

The actor has remained relatively tight-lipped about the methods to shedding the pounds, while his actor son Rafe, 34, famously weighed 18.5 stone before adopting a healthier lifestyle.

According to The Sun, the actor’s trimline physique is down to a two-year healthy regime with the star saying ‘I don’t eat rubbish now.’

He claimed the Spall family had ‘chubby genes, previously telling the MailOnline:  ‘I was a glutton. I loved food. I still do. But I didn’t have a thing in my mind that told me when to stop eating.

‘There’s something of a chunky gene in the Spall side of the family. I was always chubby, then I got fat…It took a lot of hard work but I did it and I’m proud I did it. I completely revolutionised the way I went about my health. I’m all the better for it. It changed my life.’

Timothy beat leukaemia in 1996 after he was given just weeks to live.

Rafe said he believed this may have contributed to his weight gain, saying: ‘Perhaps eating was something to make me feel better. Who knows? I’m sure that my father becoming seriously ill when I was 14 had a lot to do with my going from chubby to fat.’
