Looking to date a fellow 80s pop lover? Tinder launches MUSIC MODE that automatically plays users’ favourite songs from their profiles

  • Tinder has launched Music Mode in its recently-added Explore tab
  • Users can select an Anthem that defines them and it will play on their profile
  • Music Mode will be rolling out to Tinder members globally in the coming weeks

Whether its 80s pop or hard-core techno, many singletons would prefer to date someone with a similar music taste to them.

Now, Tinder has made it easier to suss out potential matches’ music interests, with the launch of its latest feature, Music Mode.

Music Mode will automatically play users’ chosen Anthems – the ‘one song that defines them inside and out’ – from their profiles.

‘Songs are deeply personal, and Music Mode is a place to spark something new through music,’ said Kyle Miller, VP of Product Innovation at Tinder.

How to try Music Mode

  1. Click on your profile and then select the Edit Profile button
  2. Scroll to Spotify Anthem and choose the song that best defines you
  3. Head on over to the Explore tab (at the bottom of your screen, the symbol with four squares)
  4. Scroll until you find Music Mode
  5. Once in Music Mode, you’ll be able to navigate through members who also have their Spotify anthem on their profile and their chosen anthem will automatically play

Music Mode is the newest immersive experience within Tinder’s Explore tab, and has been created in collaboration with Spotify.

In a blog announcing the new feature, Tinder explained: ‘Through an integration with Spotify, Music Mode automatically plays members’ chosen Anthems – that one song that defines them inside and out – right from their profiles.

‘Members who link their Spotify accounts and add an Anthem to their Tinder profiles will be able to enter Music Mode.’

According to Tinder, about 40 per cent of all Gen Z members (those born from 1997-2012) already have Anthems on their profiles.

However, Music Mode takes things a step further, by automatically playing your Anthem from your profile.

Mr Miller added: ‘Now with Music Mode, our members can experience that feeling when you’re at a party and you find out someone else loves the same songs you do.

‘It’s amazing how adding music as another element of discovery elevates the whole experience on Tinder.’

To try Music Mode yourself, open the Tinder app and click on your pofile.
