‘To be opened only after my passing, love mummy’: heartbreaking letter found in an Australian cafe

A heartbreaking letter signed by a mother with the words ‘to be opened only after my passing’ has been discovered in an Australian Cafe.

The envelope, signed ‘love Mummy’ has remained unopened after being discovered by a staff member at the Dawn 2 Dusk Cafe in the Gold Coast, Queensland.

It is believed a family with a baby left the letter behind about a week ago, owner Sharni Williams told Daily Mail Australia.

A heartbreaking letter signed by a mother with the words ‘to be opened only after my passing’ has been discovered in an Australian Cafe.

‘We found it in the cafe, it was an older lady, and a younger lady with a baby,’  she said.

The staff member who discovered the letter was ‘overwhelmed’ when she realised the personal nature of the letter.

‘She was like, what do I do, it’s important,’ Ms Williams said.

Hoping the woman would return to collect the letter, the cafe manager, 33, waited for a week before pleading for help from the public on social media.

‘This envelope was left at our shop and looks very important,’ she posted to Facebook.

‘If everyone could share this it would be very much appreciated.’

Ms Williams is planning to speak with the owner about reviewing CCTV footage at the shop soon and expects police will be informed.

‘In the last couple of days it’s been tempting to open the letter, but we haven’t,’ she said.

She pleaded with the mystery writer to come forward, and promised to protect their privacy with the words: ‘do not be afraid’.

‘If they don’t want it publicly known, I want them to know, do not to be afraid,’ she said.

‘We are keeping their privacy.’
