Depending on which side of the scandal the higher-ups fall, someone at the Today show earned themselves either a round of applause, or a round of arbitration.

On Wednesday, right in the throes of Karl and Peter Stefanovic’s ‘b**chy’ Ubergate scandal, one of the breakfast show’s producers ran a cheeky headline.

As Georgie was cutting to a wildlife segment, a news ticker headline was shown on-screen, reading: ‘Georgie v Snakes’.

It was an awkward sentiment in light of recent claims.

If intentional, the timing was spot on, given the fact Georgie was reportedly the subject of a recent ‘snakey’ phone conversation between the Stefanovic brothers.

In addition to being a ‘a long limbless reptile which has no eyelids,’ the term ‘snake’ is also used to describe a ‘treacherous,’ ‘deceitful’ person, or ‘back-stabber’.

The headline comes in the wake of ‘Ubergate,’ a scandal that started when an Uber driver claimed to have ‘overheard’ Karl mocking Georgie in a loudspeaker conversation.

The Today star was on the phone to his brother Peter, who was a passenger in the rideshare vehicle – allegedly ‘intoxicated’ during the call.

Karl had allegedly said that Georgie ‘didn’t have enough opinions’ and that she needed to ‘step up… if she wanted to stay on the show’.

Contrary to claims made by veteran entertainment reporter Peter Ford last week, the driver claimed that the call wasn’t recorded.

Ford was responsible for initially reporting on the existence of an alleged recording, telling Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson that it was being shopped to the highest bidder.

Soon after, several legal sources and professional drivers pointed out that it was illegal to record a passenger’s phone conversation without their consent.

The Uber driver later sold details of what was said to New Idea in a reported $50,000 deal.

Whether or not a recording does in fact exist may never be known.
