Today show viewers have had their phones bombarded by text messages for entries they never sent following a major glitch with the show’s ‘Mega Cash Giveaway’.

Entrants to the show’s competition on Monday morning were then hit with up to 30 text messages on Monday afternoon thanking them for entering.

The glitch saw dozens of concerned viewers flood the show’s Facebook demanding answers.

Claiming the texts poured in for hours, many were shocked to find they had not been included in the cash giveaway despite the number of messages they had received.

So intense was the assault of automatic messages, dozens of angry viewers said they were forced to take the extreme step of blocking the Today Show phone number.

‘Hopefully you are aware there is a major issue with your Cash A Roo competition… I have in total received over 30 reply messages,’ one viewer wrote.

‘This is ridiculous! Now up to 30 (messages) even after blocking the number,’ posted one woman.

‘I entered this morning… once! Since 3.24pm I have received 10 more confirmation messages?’ an angry contestant posted.

‘I entered the Cash-A-Roo this morning and I entered five times. At 2.40pm I received 32 messages from the free message saying thank you for entering,’ another said.

Others were concerned about paying for text messages they never sent, but a Today Show spokesperson said no entrants had been incorrectly charged.

‘There was a short outage on our Mega Cash Giveaway line yesterday morning which meant some entry messages did not get through at that time,’ the spokesman said.

‘Unfortunately, when processing these messages later, confirmation replies may have been sent more than once.

‘Viewers have not been charged for these reply messages and only the messages they originally sent were entered into the draw for today’s call.’
