Assistant coroner Simon Wickens heard that the collision happened in Wolsey Road, Esher last Saturday morning.

He was told the family car may have been reversing out of the driveway when it ran over Poppy, causing the severe brain and head injuries.

She was rushed to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, south London where she was treated for ‘traumatic brain injuries’, but pronounced dead at 11.45am.

The coroner told of how the girls parents, John and Celia, had to go to hospital to identify the body of their child, who was born in February last year in Kingston-upon -Thames, Surrey.

He said he was informed members of the family would be attending the hearing today. However none were present.

Details of the make and model of the vehicle involved were not released by the coroner, who set a hearing date on November 30 for evidence to be discussed.

He added however that this date was subject to change.
