Taking to Twitter before the match, he wrote: ‘Here we go! @Cristiano vs. @HKane. I might fist pump if you score Harry but I’m riding with @ManUtd today.’

Tom announced his retirement from American football in February this year after 22 successful seasons.

He spent 20 seasons at the New England Patriots before moving to the Glazers-owned Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

Announcing his departure from the sport earlier this year, he wrote online: ‘To the Glazer family, thank you for taking a chance on me and supporting me.

‘I know I was demanding at times, but you provided everything we needed to win, and your ownership was everything a player could ask for.’

His wife Gisele took to Instagram at the time with a supportive message, writing: ‘When I met you over 15 years ago, I didn’t know the first thing about football. But cheering for you and seeing you do what you love most made me learn about this wonderful game to the point that I seriously believed I knew more than the referees!

‘We always had a special champions playlist for every drive on our way to the game. As a family, we always prayed for you, celebrated and supported you in every game, cheered every win and suffered with every loss.’

Gisele said she was ‘so proud of’ Brady and everything he ‘had to overcome physically and emotionally over the years.’

‘I am in awe of your dedication, and of everything you have achieved. You love what you do, and you leave behind a legacy that is a beautiful example for future generations.’
