Tony Mokbel: New photos capture Barwon Prison jail aftermath

Gruesome photos capture the bloody aftermath of brutal stabbing attack on drug lord Tony Mokbel – after inmates at his maximum security jail took issue with him being called an ‘enforcer’

  • Teira Bennett and Eldea Teuira attacked Mokbel in Barwon Prison in February
  • Bennett, 21, said: ‘this is what you get for talking to the screws you f***ing dog’
  • He also shouted: ‘You think you’re an enforcer, well you are f***ing not you c***’
  • The attack was after an article called Mokbel a ‘prison big wig’ and ‘top enforcer’
  • CCTV showed Bennett punching Mokbel’s head and knocking him to the ground
  • Teuira then pulled out an improvised weapon and stabbed the drug lord

Teira Bennett and Eldea Teuira were both 21 when they launched an attack in Barwon Prison in February 2019 after a newspaper article labelled Tony Mokbel a ‘top enforcer’.

‘You’re not an enforcer, this is what you get for talking to the screws you f***ing dog,’ a prisoner officer heard Bennett say during the attack.

Another officer heard Bennett say: ‘You think you’re an enforcer, well you are f***ing not you c***’.

The attack came a day after the article called Mokbel a ‘prison big wig’ and a ‘top enforcer’ inside Barwon.

It also said Mokbel had disrupted an extortion racket run by Pacific Islanders within the prison.

About an hour before the attack Mokbel had passed a piece of paper to Bennett, who went back to his cell and appeared to read it.

Graphic CCTV footage aired in court showed the attack.

Bennett punches Mokbel’s head and knocks him to the ground before Teuira pulls out an improvised weapon and stabs the prone drug lord.

‘Teuira pulls a ‘shiv’ from his shorts and crouches over Mokbel and appears to be stabbing him in a frenzied motion up to seven times,’ prosecutor Kristie Churchill told the Victorian County Court.

During the stabbing the other man kicked Mokbel in the head three times and then retrieved another shiv and hit him in the upper body.

Several of Mokbel’s teeth were knocked out in the assault and he was left with displacement of the brain, skull fractures and stab wounds.

Three shivs made of sharpened wire and a fork were collected and found covered with the duo’s DNA, the court was told.

The pair had to be brought to the ground by guards who swarmed in with other inmates after the attack.

Both men have pleaded guilty to causing serious injury intentionally in circumstances of gross violence.

They also admitted a charge of causing reckless injury after another inmate was stabbed during the attack on Mokbel.

Teuira’s family and specialist prison officers are in court for the pre-sentence hearing, which is continuing before Judge Liz Gaynor.
