Top American seed Jessica Pegula romps to victory over Viktorija Golubic in US Open first round

Top American seed Jessica Pegula – the daughter of billionaire Buffalo Bills owners – romps to victory over Viktorija Golubic in just an HOUR in US Open first round

  • Jessica Pegula handily won the match to the tune of 6-2, 6-2
  • She entered the tournament ranked higher than any other American at No. 8
  • Pegula has reached the quarterfinals of two Grand Slams already this year

Jessica Pegula made light work of her first round opponent Viktorija Golubic at the US Open Tuesday, winning 6-2, 6-2 to book her place in the second round.

The match lasted just one hour and four minutes as the Swiss player could not cope with the American.

Pegula will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto or Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.

Pegula put in a dominant performance against Golubic, breaking serve on five occasions.

Pegula entered the tournament ranked No. 8 in the world in singles by the WTA, which is the highest of any American.

And the 28-year-old has had a breakthrough year of sorts, reaching the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and French Open and reaching the French Open doubles final.

Pegula is the daughter of Terry and Kim Pegula, who own the Buffalo Bills.

Not for the first time, Pegula will attempt to keep her Open singles run alive while also playing doubles.

She’s teamed up with Coco Gauff – the pair lost the French Open final earlier this year – and they’ll play Wednesday in the first round.
