Tottenham 1-2 Juventus – PLAYER RATINGS: Chiellini and Higuain shine

Tottenham crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Juventus at Wembley.

After the first leg in Turin ended 2-2, Son Heung-min looked to have put Spurs on course for the last-eight with a first-half opener.

But goals from Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain turned the tie in Juventus’ favour. Here, Sportsmail’s MATT BARLOW runs the rule over the two sides from Wembley…

Paulo Dybala scored the winner as Juventus came from behind to beat Tottenham at Wembley

TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1)

Hugo Lloris – 6

A bystander for so long and unable to perform the necessary heroics as the tie turned.

Kieran Trippier – 6

As ever better going forward than back, supplying the cross for Son’s goal.

Davinson Sanchez – 6

One thunderous first half tackle drew an ovation but at fault as Juventus fought back.

Jan Vertonghen – 5.5

Lucky to escape a mistimed tackle on Costa in the first-half and not watertight. Booked.

Ben Davies – 5.5

Tested by the pace of Costa and unable to keep out the Italians when they stepped up a gear.

Eric Dier – 6

Soldiered through an arm injury, could not provide the shield, replaced when Spurs needed a goal.

Mousa Dembele – 6.5

Strong on the ball and impressive when Spurs in control, but overwhelmed as Juventus fought back. Booked.

Christian Eriksen – 6

Quiet by his standards with an important pass in the build up to Son’s goal.

Dele Alli – 6.5

Plenty of nice touches, caused problems for Juventus in first half but faded as Chiellini got physical. Booked.

Son Heung-min – 7

Erratic. Very dangerous early on, scored yet again and might have had more. Also escaped sanction for an ill-advised kick-out at Barzagli.

Harry Kane – 6.5

Missed an early chance from tight angle which was not easy but well within his powers. Hit post late on.

Subs: Lamela (for Dier 74) 6, Llorente (for Alli 85).

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino – 6

When Juventus changed gear in the final half-hour his team could not respond.

JUVENTUS (4-3-3)

Gianluigi Buffon – 6

Exudes authority and keeps goal with experience. No chance with Son’s mishit opener.

Andrea Barzagli – 5.5

Found it tough at right back where he was tormented by Son. Happier at centre half after reshuffle.

Mehdi Benatia – 5

Struggled to contain Kane and Alli in first-half, defending was last-ditch from the outset. Booked.

Giorgio Chiellini – 8

Wily and rugged with courageous blocks. Wiped out Alli when required and heroic in the closing stages. Booked.

Alex Sandro – 6

Little in the way of the overlapping runs which tempted Chelsea to launch a bid. Booked.

Sami Khedira – 6

Dominated by Spurs in the middle of the field but made it into the box to set up Higuain for the equaliser.

Miralem Pjanic – 6

Normally the creator from midfield but rarely able to get on the ball in good areas. Booked.

Blaise Matuidi – 5

Missed first leg through injury, never got to the tempo of the game and appeared relieved to be replaced.

Paulo Dybala – 7

Subdued for an hour before flashing a volley wide and a clinical finish for Juve’s winner.

Gonzalo Higuain – 7.5

Barely involved for an hour but turned the game with a goal and an assist.

Douglas Costa – 7

Lightning fast outlet on the right wing, dangerous on the ball and ought to have won a first-half penalty.

Subs: Asamoah (for Matuidi 60) 6, Lichtsteiner (for Benatia 62) 7. Sturaro for Higuain 84. Lichtsteiner’s overlapping power turned the game.

Manager: Max Allegri – 7

Patient and picked his moment to shake the game up with second-half changes and turned the tie in favour of his team.

Referee: Szymon Marciniak – 5

Let Spurs off the hook with a first-half penalty call and brandished yellow cards.
