Jose Mourinho fears Tottenham talisman Harry Kane will be sidelined for ‘a few weeks’ after England striker injured BOTH ankles in first half of Liverpool defeat
Jose Mourinho fears Tottenham’s talismanic striker Harry Kane is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines after injuring both ankles in the defeat by Liverpool.
Kane limped off at half-time after taking blows to each ankle. The striker’s joints were both swollen as he left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium sparking major concern of a lengthy lay off.
The striker will undergo assessments and scans over the next 48 hours – but Mourinho said: ‘Two ankles, the first was a bad tackle, it was Thiago, the second one I didn’t know well.
Harry Kane sustained ankle injuries in the opening period of Tottenham’s clash vs Liverpool
‘But two injuries in both ankles, the second one worst than the first one – a few weeks, I don’t know.
‘For Harry to leave a game when he wants to play – it’s not a nothing injury. How long we have to wait and see.’
In response to questions about angry exchanges between his players at half-time, Mourinho said: ‘It was the mood of team that was difficult to accept you are losing.
Kane received medical treatment twice in the first half before he was replaced at half-time
Following the defeat by Liverpool, Jose Mourinho said Kane was in too much pain to continue
‘It’s very hard to resist so many individual defensive mistakes, unless we score four goals against Liverpool which isn’t easy. Every time we reacted the next mistake came.’
Jurgen Klopp couldn’t contain his satisfaction as Liverpool won their first Premier League game in six to give their title ambitions a timely boost.
‘I’m delighted, we played a great game – it was super intense. We scored in the right moments – and all the right people scored.
Kane has been in devastating form this season, and will be a huge miss for Tottenham
‘That was who we are – that was us. We showed massive fight and football. It was a good performance and I saw a lot of things I wanted to see.’
But Klopp suffered two major central defensive blows after Fabinho suffered an injury in the lead up to the clash while Joel Matip – the club’s only fit recognised senior centre-back – limped off with an ankle ligament injury raising fears he is facing another spell on the sidelines.
And Klopp has not ruled out entering the transfer market to sign a central defender before Monday’s deadline ‘You can imagine we think about everything. We think the whole time about doing the right thing, we need to find the right player – it’s incredible what’s happening to us (with injuries),’ Klopp added.
