TOTTENHAM FAN VIEW: Some will feel Harry Kane crossed a line by angling for a move to Manchester City… but once he starts scoring goals again, I’m sure any ill-feeling will quickly subside
- Harry Kane announced he will be staying at Tottenham for another season
- Manchester City have been chasing the England captain throughout the summer
- Spurs owner Daniel Levy has managed to hang on to his key talisman up front
- Kane won the Premier League Golden Boot last year and will be a frontrunner
This was the news Tottenham fans were waiting for. Harry Kane will be staying in north London for at least another season.
It is impossible to speak for the feelings of an entire fan base but I suspect the vast majority are delighted one of the world’s best players will continue to play for Spurs.
No doubt some will feel a line has been crossed but once he starts banging them in again — and he WILL start banging them in again — any ill-feeling will soon subside.
Harry Kane will be staying at Tottenham for the forthcoming season after a difficult summer
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have failed to land a key summer target, valued at £150m
We all know why he wanted to leave and few begrudged him the chance to win trophies at this stage of his career but it is hard not to feel Kane and his camp handled the saga poorly from the start.
However, the bottom line is, this transfer did not happen because Manchester City were seemingly unwilling to make Tottenham an acceptable offer.
At a club where money is no object, it seemed strange they were not prepared to go big to land Kane.

The way City have conducted their transfer business over the last decade or so has been exemplary but their approach to signing Kane has been puzzling.
We are talking about the England captain, Tottenham’s best player and top goalscorer with three years left on his deal. Tottenham were never going to sell him to another Premier League club on the cheap.
If City really wanted him, surely they accepted it was going to take an extraordinary bid to get Spurs to contemplate selling such an iconic player.
Daniel Levy has managed to keep his talisman despite pressure from the top-flight champions
Such a bid never materialised, so Kane stays. For now. Let’s not paint this as a triumph for Daniel Levy and his tough guy image though.
The reason Kane wanted to leave was because the club have not kicked on from reaching the Champions League final in 2019.
The fact they are playing Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday night says it all.
