Jose Mourinho is lining up a shock reunion with Tanguy Ndombele with the Roma boss in need of reinforcements in attacking midfield, reports in Italy suggest.
The 25-year-old has made just five appearances since Antonio Conte took the helm and when asked about Ndombele in a recent press conference, the Italian shrugged: ‘he’s a midfielder. I think… he is a midfielder’.
And according to Calciomercato, Roma boss Mourinho is looking to end Ndombele’s current turmoil in north London and is eyeing up a loan swoop for the Frenchman.

The latest report comes as a surprise, with Ndombele enduring a tumultuous relationship with the Portuguese coach during their time together at Tottenham.
Mourinho rebuked Ndombele’s display at Burnley after withdrawing him at half time and summoned him to an impromptu training session at the height of the pandemic in April 2020.
However, he also showed glimpses of the promise that convinced the club to part ways with £65million to sign him from Lyon. Mourinho was in the dugout when Ndombele scored his sensational volleyed goal at Sheffield United last season.

Ndombele scored six goals and provided five assists in his 57 appearances for Spurs under the Portuguese, and Roma are considering a loan move for the Frenchman with a view to a permanent deal.
While Spurs splashed out £65m for Ndombele in 2019, the Italian outlet suggests that he could be made available for a cut-price fee of £30m.
Conte wants to begin building his squad in this month’s window and Ndombele does not appear to be part of the former Chelsea boss’ plans. Last week, the Italian pleaded for Tottenham’s board to give him the funds needed to sign new players.

‘For sure (we need to strengthen),’ Conte said. ‘After only two weeks I said we needed to improve the quality of this squad.
‘I was sure after seven to 10 days about this. Then I had to make the evaluation over who I can count on and who I can’t.
‘The gap is very large and we need to work a lot and try to improve our squad.’
