Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho rules out a squad overhaul in the summer

Jose Mourinho has claimed his Tottenham squad does not need a complete overhaul in the summer despite enduring an extremely tough season to date.

Spurs currently sit seventh in the Premier League, five points off the top four with just 10 matches remaining and there has been talk that the squad needs freshening up.

After reaching last season’s Champions League final, Tottenham have dropped off massively and as a result, Mauricio Pochettino was sacked earlier in the season before Mourinho came in as his replacement.

They are in need of a new out-and-out striker to provide cover for Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, while many experienced heads, like Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose, could be out of the door in the summer.

But Portuguese manager Mourinho has insisted that his Spurs squad doesn’t need too much change in the summer.

When asked if he would spend big in the summer, Mourinho replied: ‘No, not massive changes.

‘First of all, that’s not what we think we need. Second, because of the profile of our club and third because of what the market is. Year after year, it’s more difficult. 

‘I’m not thinking of an overhaul.’ 

The Portuguese manager was speaking ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup home clash with Norwich on Wednesday night in north London.

Tottenham, who have beaten Middlesbrough and Southampton in replays so far, are looking to bounce back from their Premier League defeat against Wolves and book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals. 

The future of experienced heads, like centre back Jan Vertonghen, remain uncertain
