‘When Spurs and Liverpool play in the Champions League final, it will be watched by a global TV audience of over 200 million people. This presents a huge captive audience for brands wanting to associate themselves on a global, multi-market platform.

‘It also means that the likes of Spurs and Liverpool will increase their sponsorship value through being able to show regular participation in the Champions League.’

On the effect this will have on the English game, Melville added: ‘The Premier League already earns the most sponsorship revenues in Europe, making over £1billion a year from 440 sponsorship agreements. The success of Premier League clubs in Europe will only increase this investment level in years to come.’
