A tradesman has died after becoming trapped in a 10 metre trench on a construction site at a housing estate.
Emergency services were called to the scene at Wallan, north of Melbourne, just before 3pm on Thursday.
Firefighters and SES volunteers tried desperately to save the man believed to be aged in his 30s but he couldn’t be revived.

‘Police and emergency services are currently on scene at a workplace incident at Wallan,’ a Victoria Police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia.
‘It’s believed a worker fell into a trench on a Springridge Boulevard work site when the trench collapsed about 2.50pm. The worker who is yet to be formally identified died at the scene. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.’
The man was working at the Springridge housing estate.
WorkSafe Victoria is investigating.
