Body of boy, 15, is pulled from the water after he disappeared during a New Year’s Eve river swim on the NSW south coast

  • Two teenage boys, 15 and 16, went for a swim in the Shoalhaven River at Burrier
  • The 15-year-old boy had difficulty and disappeared under the water on Friday
  • Search continued over two days and body was found Saturday afternoon


The body of a teenage boy who went missing while swimming in a river on the south coast of NSW on New Year’s Eve has been found.

The young man, 15, and another teenage boy, 16, were swimming in Shoalhaven River at Burrier, 182km south of Sydney, around 6.30pm on Friday.

Both were swimming when one of the boys began to struggle and disappeared under the water.

Emergency services, members of the public on personal vessels, police divers, and the Toll Rescue Helicopter helped search for the boy until 1:30am on Saturday.

Sadly the body of the boy was found just before 1:30pm on Saturday and recovered by divers.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
