Tragedy as British man, 46, is crushed to death after trying to secure a dinghy in rough waters

A British man has been crushed to death on a ship after trying to secure a dinghy in rough waters. 

The 46-year-old was 19 nautical miles northwest of Magnetic Island – off the coast of Townsville, Queensland when the accident happened.

Emergency services were called at around 12.10am on Sunday. 

Townsville Police Tactical Services Group Inspector Sean Dugger told Townsville Bulletin that it was initially thought the man had fallen overboard.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.  

‘The ship’s skipper appeared to crushed by a tender which he had been trying to secure during rough conditions,’ Inspector Dugger said. 

The man was unable to be revived.
