Two young children have lost their parents in a horrific car crash.

Nine-month-old baby Eli was pulled from the car after the collision just before 6pm on Saturday evening near Cambridge on New Zealand’s North Island.

Eli’s half-brother Riley, 11, was not in the car at the time, but his mother Brenda and step-father Chris were both killed.

The baby boy is still at Waikato Hospital, where he was in a critical condition on Sunday evening.

By Tuesday afternoon his condition had improved to stable, a Waikato District Health Board spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

The deadly crash was part of a horror day on the roads of the island’s Waikato region as four people died in three separate incidents.

A Givealittle fundraiser has been launched in the wake of the crash by Brenda’s cousin Pam Tonkins to support the two brothers.

‘All funds raised will go directly to a trust for the boys for their future support,’ she said.

‘Eli and Riley will be cared for by family.’

As of Tuesday, more than NZD$11,500 (AUD$11,114) has been raised for Riley and Eli through the fundraising website.

A local resident who lived close to the crash near Cambridge told Stuff the baby was pulled from the wreckage of the crash still in his car seat.

Another witness said the young boy was crying when he was taken from the car.

‘It was scary and there was blood everywhere but he did seem okay,’ witness Claire Allen said.

‘He started off well but then I think he started going into quite a bit of shock.’
