Transfers: PSG ‘make contact with Rennes’ over summer move for Eduardo Camavinga

PSG ‘make contact with Rennes’ over summer move for French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga with sporting director Leonardo ‘viewing 18-year-old as future of midfield’ in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Rennes in a bid to steal a march on Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United for teenage wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports in France.

PSG played out a 1-1 draw with Rennes on Sunday and while it proved damaging on the pitch for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their bid for the Ligue 1 title, strides were said to have been made in the boardroom.

L’Equipe report that PSG sporting director Leonardo commenced talks with Rennes in a bid to strike a deal this summer.

Rennes are believed to be in a position to cash in on the 18-year-old this summer with just one year remaining on his current contract.

The report details that Bayern Munich, one of Camavinga’s many suitors, are reluctant to pay more than €25million (£21.5m) and that has seemingly opened the door for PSG to seize control.

Camavinga has played 37 times for Bruno Génésio’s men so far this season, with Rennes sitting just one point behind fifth-placed Marseille.

Speaking to Telefoot recently, Camavinga has tried to keep his feet on the ground amid the frenzy that surrounds his future.

‘It makes you feel flattered and it’s nice that teams like Real Madrid or Bayern are interested in your situation,’ he said.

‘I’m not going to lie, but I have not yet thought it over with my family.’

Speaking to Goal back in February, Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett, who also represents Gareth Bale, talked up the ceiling for the teenager.

‘Let’s see what happens later on, but he’s doing well in Rennes and that’s fine,’ Barnett said.

‘Being the best midfielder in the world, that’s how I see his future, [with] a lot of medals and a lot of trophies.’

PSG suffered a disappointing Champions League exit to Manchester City at the semi-final stage and Leonardo is looking to refresh a side that has struggled to assert its dominance in France this season, with Lille in control of the title race.

Camavinga’s stock has continued to rise on the continent and he could yet increase his price tag if he is chosen by Didier Deschamps’ for the France squad at this summer’s European Championships.

Against Ukraine back in October, Camavinga became France’s youngest scorer for 106 years.
