Transgender girl reveals heartbreaking backstory confront Scott Morrison

The transgender girl who confronted Scott Morrison live on TV has revealed the emotional backstory behind her strongly-worded message for the new Prime Minister.

Evie Macdonald, 13, made headlines after she spoke up for transgender Australians on Channel 10’s The Project, telling Mr Morrison ‘we don’t deserve to be disrespected.’

‘There are thousands of kids in Australia that are gender-diverse and we don’t deserve to be disrespected like that through tweets from our Prime Minister,’ she said.

Her comments followed a controversial tweet from Mr Morrison, in which he said schools do not need ‘gender whisperers’.

‘We do not need ‘gender whisperers’ in our schools. Let kids be kids,’ he posted on Twitter.

In an interview with Evie and her mother Meagan on Tuesday, the 13-year-old revealed she had struggled with her mental health during her battle to become her true self.

‘At one stage Evie thought that heaven for her would be the only place that she could actually live and be who she needed to be,’ mother Meagan said.

Evie, born Ethan, said that she felt a lot of ‘confusion, anger and sadness’ during that time.

‘Over all the years, it was just overwhelming me,’ she said.

Meagan also revealed that she and her husband had tried to teach Evie how to be a boy after noticing her feminine behaviour.

They attempted to get her into auskick and soccer, before realising that they should just accept their daughter for who she is, Meagan said.
