Travel chaos as train hits person near Bromley sparking cancellations and delays

Person dies after being hit by train at Bromley South railway station sparking cancellations and delays into Victoria and across south east London

  • Southestern announced the crash at 6.22am with delays expected until 10am
  • Trains between Victoria and Orpington have been suspended
  • Passengers have been warned their journeys may be delayed by upto an hour 

A person has been hit and killed by a train in southeast London, resulting in track closures and delays. 

The incident is understood to have taken place shortly after 6am and emergency services are currently at the scene, on the tracks between Catford and Bromley South. Two lines of the four are currently blocked.

Trains between Nunhead and Bromley South may be cancelled, delayed or revised with disruption expected to continue until 10am.

Southeastern Trains warned passengers that trains between Victoria and Orpington have been suspended, some trains will not run between Bromley South and Beckenhan Junction, there is currently no service at Bickley and Bromley South, and other services to and from Victoria may be delayed or revised.

Passengers travelling from Orpington or Sevenoaks towards London were told their journeys might be extended by approximately by as much as an hour.

The network said the emergency services along with Network Rail Operatives are on site dealing with the incident, and that as a safety precaution two of four lines are closed. 

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 5:22am today (22 May) to Bromley South railway station to reports of a person struck by a train.

‘We sent an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and an ambulance crew to the scene. We also dispatched our hazardous area response team (HART).

‘Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.’
