A Qantas spokesman said every airline had been impacted by the closures.

‘Weather conditions at Sydney airport are causing disruptions across all airlines. All affected Qantas passengers will be accommodated on the first available seats.’

Wind gusts are expected to reach 50km/h by late Thursday afternoon in Sydney and 56km/h in Melbourne, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Travellers should contact their airlines to find out if their flights have been impacted.
