A woman who was burned by a spilled cup of tea on an international flight claimed she can never get on a flight again because the experience has scarred for life.

Dimity Plaister, 47, from the Gold Coast, Queensland, alleged she was scalded with tea while travelling on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Brisbane to Honolulu in 2017.

She claimed a male flight attendant spilled the hot beverage on her lap, which soaked through her clothes and burned her buttocks, leaving a permanent scar, The Courier Mail reported.

Dimity Plaister, 47 (pictured), from the Gold Coast, Queensland, alleged she was scalded with tea while travelling on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from Brisbane to Honolulu in 2017

According to court documents, Ms Plaister claimed she ordered a up of tea about 11.45pm, which the flight attended placed on a tray in front of her.

‘In the process of passing a carton of milk to (Ms Plaister) for her tea, the cabin crew member knocked over the cup of black tea into her lap,’ the claim states.

Ms Plaister has alleged the flight attendant knocked over the tea, and she exclaimed: ‘I need to get my trousers off, they are burning me,’ and, ‘I need to get up.’

But the airline has reportedly denied the allegation and defended its staff in a defence filed in court last month, saying staff didn’t act negligently.

The airline also said if it is found to be at fault, it will argue the 47-year-old failed to take appropriate care when reaching for some milk after the tea was given to her.

Ms Plaister denied she was responsible and claimed  she was not able to stop the hot tea from spilling on her hip, thigh and buttocks because her arms were on the rests.

The passenger also alleged she was having a conversation with her mother, who was seated next to her, at the time.

She also claimed she wasn’t watching the in-flight entertainment system or wearing headphones, and had only drunk one glass of champagne three hours prior.

The alleged incident was so traumatic that she now sees a psychologist to help her deal with the fear of not being able to get on a plane again, Ms Plaister claimed.

She also alleged the ordeal ruined her 10-day holiday because she was unable to enjoy herself due to her burns and now feels self-conscious about the scar.

Ms Plaister’s case returns to court on July 30.
