People are calling for child-free flights after footage has emerged showing an anonymous child on a plane wearing a light-up costume – disturbing all the other passengers.
The video of the young child, who appears to be no older then five or six years old, was posted on the popular Instagram page, @Sarcasm_only, which has some 16million followers, on August 15.
The six-second clip shows a packed flight of people sitting in a dimly lit cabin, indicating it was an overnight journey, with the lights turned off so that people can rest. A caption accompanying the footage said: ‘Imagine being on this flight… I’d be ill.’
And Instagram users from around the world did not hold back in their criticism of the behaviour in the video, which garnered a staggering 8.4million views, almost 350,000 likes, and more than 6,000 comments.
Among the comments were some people expressing their frustration over how ‘selfish’ parents can be when taking children on both long and short-haul flights.
Footage has emerged online which has some people calling for child-free flights. It shows a child wearing an illuminated costume while people attempted to sleep on a plane
Several passengers sitting in the rows behind the child and her father either hang their heads down as they attempt to sleep, or look on in bewilderment at the distracting costume worn by the girl.
As the camera zooms in on the child, she smiles smugly as her white bunny costume flashes busy strobe-like lights around the cabin, illuminating an entire section of the plane.
The incident has infuriated people so much that thousands of comments were left slamming the ‘rude’ and ‘inconsiderate’ father, with some even calling for the introduction of child-free flights.
One disgruntled user wrote: ‘What’s worse than kids? Parents,’ while another said, ‘Sick of people who don’t control their children in public spaces.’
Another person added: ‘It’s selfish, and in very poor taste. Shame on those parents.’
One agitated user savagely said: ‘If the parent refuses to take that off the child then the child is going to learn the truth about Santa, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy all in under six minutes.’
Others called for child-free flights, with one writing: ‘I vote for adult-only flight[s]. I would pay extra for adult-only flights.’
Another user agreed, commenting: ‘This is why we need adult-only flights. I’d happily pay more for one.’

Some users were concerned for those with epilepsy and other medical conditions, with one writing: ‘Absolutely not. While the parents might think this is cute what about people with medical issues?’
Another said: ‘May cause an epileptic [person] to have seizures, so it’s not cute. Educate yourself and your kids. The world doesn’t revolve around you.’
A final commenter wrote: ‘Forget people being sick, it’s just plain rude. If the lights are off I imagine it’s a night light, meaning some people are going to want to catch up on some sleep. A lack of both respect and education.’
This comes after a thread on Reddit erupted in 2019 when users were invited to list the gripes they have about their fellow passengers on planes.
The list of irritations was vast, from seats being reclined to kids playing video games with the volume up and from passengers at the back trying to get off first to reading over someone’s shoulder.
