Thousands of travellers are left in the dark and out of pocket after an online flight retailer goes into administration

Travellers have been left in the lurch and thousands of dollars out of pocket after online flight retailer Fly365 collapsed.

The flight booking company entered into voluntary administration on Friday removing both its website and Facebook page leaving paying customers scratching their heads.

Melbourne couple James Price and Steven Somers had spent $11,500 on flights to Europe and have been left without a refund.

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents said they were given no warning before the flight retailer went belly up.

‘This is a very regrettable situation and AFTA strongly believes that contributing circumstances beyond the control of AFTA and the ATAS scheme have resulted in this outcome,’ Jayson Westbury, AFTA Chief Executive said.

‘AFTA, through the robust criteria that surrounds the ATAS scheme, is able to monitor and review the health of travel businesses who hold ATAS accreditation.

‘Unfortunately, where there appears to be deliberate withholding of information by the Directors, AFTA was not in a position to either provide advance support to the business prior to its failure or predict this outcome.’

Mr Price and Mr Somers had organised the family trip to Europe and booked flights on February 14.

More to come.
