Collingwood star Travis Varcoe has kicked an emotional first goal of the 2018 AFL Grand Final.

Enduring the tragic passing of his sister, Margaret Varcoe, Travis pointed to the sky after he slotted the first major of the blockbuster clash with West Coast.

A football player herself, Margaret, fondly known as Maggie, died after a horrific head clash during her own grand final.

Channel Seven’s commentator Bruce McAvaney summed up the emotional kick perfectly, saying it was a ‘fairytale’.

Varcoe’s goal ignited Collingwood instantly, who have kicked the first five goals unanswered.

Before the game, Varcoe said he would use his sister’s death to provide inspiration throughout the match.

‘The circumstances leading up to it have been pretty tough but, you know, Maggie and I are pretty similar in personality and I know that she would be saying “let’s just calm down, enjoy what you need to enjoy”,’ Varcoe told Fox Footy at Friday’s Grand Final parade.

The speedy forward, Varcoe has Maggie’s name printed on his arm during Saturday’s Grand Final.
