Trent Reznor describes his experience working on Netflix hit Bird Box ‘a f**king waste of time’

Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor describes his experience working on Sandra Bullock’s Netflix hit Bird Box as ‘a f**king waste of time’

He’s the brains behind industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, as well as an Academy Award-winning film composer.

But Trent Reznor has given a scathing assessment of his experience working on the Sandra Bullock hit Bird Box, in a candid interview with Revolver earlier this week.

‘That was a f**king waste of time,’ said the 54-year-old musician of his time spent scoring the 2018 Netflix horror film.

‘When we got immersed in it, it felt like some people were phoning it in,’ the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo composer told the magazine.

‘And you’re stuck with a film editor who had real bad taste,’ he explained was one of the reasons so much of the music he created with his creative partner Atticus Ross didn’t make the final film.

‘And the final icing on the s**t cake was…they mixed the music so low, you couldn’t hear it anyway.’

‘We thought, no one’s going to see this f**king movie. And, of course, it’s the hugest movie ever in Netflix,’ said the Hurt hitmaker.

Reznor and Ross previously won an Academy Award in 2011 for their work scoring David Fincher’s Facebook drama The Social Network.

Meanwhile, Bird Box has indeed become a monster hit for the streaming service that funded it.

Netflix announced last year that 45M subscriber accounts had already streamed Susanne Bier’s zombie-style thriller.

‘Took off my blindfold this morning to discover that 45,037,125 Netflix accounts have already watched ‘Bird Box’ — best first 7 days ever for a Netflix film!’ the company wrote in a tweet in December featuring a GIF of lead actress Sandra Bullock saying: ‘Oh my god’ as she pulls off her blindfold.

The announcement is one of the first times Netflix has publicly shared viewership metrics, splitting from its tradition of keeping numbers under wraps.
