Tributes pour in as Kath & Kim and SeaChange writer Doug McLeod dies at age 62


Doug McLeod has died at the age of 62. 

According to TV Tonight, the lauded TV writer and author, who worked on iconic shows such as Kath & Kim and SeaChange, died in Melbourne this week. 

He had battled poor health for several years, having suffered a stroke in 2011 as well as being diagnosed with lupus in 2014.

The news was announced by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, in a tweet that read:  ‘Vale Doug Macleod. CBCA VIC Branch is saddened to hear of the passing of Victorian author Doug Macleod. 

‘A devastating loss for our community and all those who loved his work.’

Actress and TV host Julia Zemiro wrote: ‘Vale Doug Macleod. A generous generous man of words and comedy.’

 Quiz host Brydon Coverdale tweeted: ‘For a period in the 80s and 90s it felt like anything funny on TV or in print in Australia had Doug MacLeod’s name on it.

Doug was the blistering talent behind Australian comedy classics like The Comedy Company, Big Girls Blouse, Fast Forward, Totally Full Frontal and Col’n Carpenter. 

He received the Fred Parsons Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Australian Comedy at the Australian Writers’ Guild Awards in In 2008. 

Doug is survived by his family and partner Stephen, and a celebration of his life is set to be held of December 3rd.
